Inn The Doghouse is a growing dog daycare, boarding, and grooming company serving Northeast Ohio with locations in Mentor and Lakewood, and a new Avon location opening on April 1, 2026. As we grow, we are committed to administering HR functions consistently and professionally across all sites.
We are seeking an HR Generalist to help us build and maintain strong, compliant, and people-centered HR operations.
Position Overview
The HR Generalist is a hands-on professional responsible for day-to-day HR operations across our three facilities. This role bridges high-level strategy and daily execution, ensuring consistent HR operations and compliance. The ideal candidate takes full ownership of HR accuracy and professionalism while supporting managers through established SOPs and Work Instructions.
This position requires weekly on-site presence (ideally one day per week at each location) with flexibility for remote administrative work. Most on-site work will occur midday. Expect approximately 3–4 hours per site weekly, averaging 15–20 hours per week, with increased hours leading up to the Avon opening.
Core Responsibilities
Training & Onboarding
- Partner with General Managers to implement company training programs
- Execute background checks, offer letters, and orientation checklists
- Ensure new hires understand benefits and policies
Employee Relations
- Serve as the first point of contact for employee concerns
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws
- Handle terminations as needed
Employee Engagement
- Support engagement initiatives and internal communications
- Help foster a positive, professional pet-care culture
Benefits & Records Administration
- Manage benefits enrollment (including supplemental benefits and Simple IRA)
- Maintain digital personnel files and HRIS records
- Track PTO, attendance, and performance review deadlines
Compliance
- Maintain I-9 files and required documentation
- Ensure all HR processes follow established SOPs and competency tracking
Special Projects
- Support hiring and onboarding ramp-up for the Avon opening
- Assist with additional HR projects as assigned
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of HR experience (high-volume services or animal care preferred)
- Strong knowledge of HR best practices, retention, and benefits administration
- Exceptional attention to detail and confidentiality
- Professional communication and follow-through
- Ability to work independently and take ownership
- Experience with terminations
- Experience with payroll
