Canine Care Specialist — Urban Doghouse - Aubrey
Full-time & part-time · 20–40 hours/week · $10.50 – $13.50/hour · On-site in Aubrey, TX
About Us
Urban Doghouse - Aubrey is a locally owned dog daycare, boarding, and grooming facility where intelligent care meets elevated service. Our clients aren't dropping off a pet — they're trusting us with a member of the family. Our daycare runs on structured group play, not an overcrowded free-for-all: purpose-driven playgroups under continuous supervision by trained handlers.
We run on our own care-tracking platform, which logs care routines, medications, and services — so there's less guesswork on your shift. We're a hands-on crew, and everyone works the floor, management included.
The Role
The Canine Care Specialist is the heart of our operation — responsible for the safety, supervision, feeding, and enrichment of every dog in our care. You'll be trained and scheduled in two assignments: supervising playgroups in the yard, and keeping the kennel clean and comfortable for boarding guests.
Key Responsibilities
- Yard Supervision: Never leave a yard unattended. Group dogs appropriately, read body language, and intervene safely to prevent conflict or injury.
- Kennel Care: Clean and disinfect kennels, feed per each dog's instructions, and handle bedding and laundry.
- Grooming Support: Bathe, brush, and trim nails as needed, and keep grooming areas clean and stocked.
- Medication & Records: Once trained, administer medication with correct-dog verification and log it immediately.
- Wellness Monitoring: Watch for signs of stress, illness, or injury, and report concerns to management right away.
- Sanitation & Safety: Keep yards, kennels, and common areas hazard-free, latch every gate, and maintain fresh water.
- Documentation & Communication: Record daily notes and incidents in our digital care system before shift end, and keep client information confidential.
Ideal Candidate Traits
- Comfort With Dogs: Comfortable with dogs of all sizes and temperaments, and able to read stress, fear, or aggression.
- Calm Judgment: Sound decisions in an emergency and a level head when the yard gets busy.
- Full Engagement: Supervising means supervising — no sitting, phones, or earbuds while you're with the dogs.
- Patience and Compassion: Every dog is handled with care. We never use punishment or excessive force.
- Attention to Detail: Accurate logs, latched gates, fresh water. Comfortable with basic computer record keeping.
- Communication and Teamwork: Professional with clients and coworkers, works well as part of a team, and quick to flag a concern rather than sit on it.
- Reliability: Arrive on time and in uniform, available weekends and holidays as needed.
- Physical Stamina: Stand and walk full shifts, bend and kneel frequently, lift 50 lbs, and work outdoors in all weather.
Nice to have: prior daycare, boarding, or veterinary experience.
