We are seeking dedicated and compassionate Pet Care Specialists to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for providing compassionate pet care to various types of animals, breeds, sizes and training levels, while ensuring their well-being. This position requires a love for animals, strong communication skills, a natural knack for reading animal behavior cues, and the ability to handle various tasks related to pet care. Paid training will be included as part of the team onboarding process.
We are looking to fill positions for availability 7am-2p and noon-6pm. Weekday and Weekend positions are available as most clients need pet care during long weekend vacations and/or dog walks midday while they are at work. Sitters are asked to be available for pet sitting 2 weekends per month as their schedule allows.
Our areas within Summerville where our client base is growing the most are Wescott/Ladson, Cane Bay and Nexton. Applicants would not be asked to cover all these areas but rather approximately a 15 minute drive radius within these areas.
Responsibilities
Provide daily care for pets, including feeding, grooming, and exercise.
Monitor the health and behavior of animals, reporting any concerns to management.
Assist in administering medications as directed by pet owners or veterinarians.
Maintain cleanliness in the client's home as it relates to the pet (cleaning potty accidents, rinsing out empty pet food cans, etc.)
Engage with pet owners to provide updates on their pets' activities and well-being.
Utilize animal handling techniques to ensure the safety of both pets and staff.
Send detailed completed reports to pet owners along with photos of their pets promptly after each visit
Comfort with technology allowing effective and clear communication with our team and our clients to provide a stress-free pet care experience for the pets and their owners.
Handle heavy lifting when necessary, such as moving large bags of pet food or bringing client packages inside.
Qualifications
Previous experience in animal handling and reading animal body language is preferred
Knowledge of fear free pet interactions is preferred
Strong customer service skills to communicate effectively with pet owners
Applicants can expect
Walking pets in all forms of weather (rain or shine) and will be expected to assess situations that would put the dogs safety at risk (ei temperatures of pavement vs finding shade or grass to walk in)
While not common, pet care providers will have situations requiring cleaning potty accidents, vomit, etc and must be comfortable with such.
When working with animals some of them will jump, bark, growl, or feel anxious until they trust you in their own time.
Care providers must be able to comfortably navigate creating a relationship with pets where the sitter is in control while the pet is relaxed/unstressed.
