About Alcala Pet Resort:
Encinitas luxury pet care facility is seeking a driven and experienced professional to join a thriving R+ Dog Training Team with exciting opportunities for growth and autonomy.
- The trainer will be responsible for executing individualized day training and or board & train plans for 3-4 dogs per day using Fear Free™ handling and errorless learning methodologies keeping in line with LIMA (least intrusive minimally aversive) best practices and CCPDT Code of Ethics.
- The best candidate would feel very comfortable collaborating and communicating with the entire Alcala team and pet parents to identify problem behaviors and recommend appropriate solutions for ongoing implementation.
Responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Design and implementation of training plans in accordance with pet parent's goals and guidelines provided by the Training Manager
- Provide appropriate supervised dog-to-dog social opportunities for day-training dogs if/when necessary
- Collaborate with the training team daily to optimize efficiency and efficacy of training sessions
- Utilize provided resources and internal systems for record-keeping and client communications
- Communicate with pet parents for scheduling and conduct private coaching lessons
- Complete 2-3 Enrichment Sessions per day
- Participate in biweekly meetings to review training plans and performance
- Maintain an organized schedule to ensure optimal time management
- Upload pictures and/or videos of clients and their dogs for company social media and internal use
- Marketing responsibilities may include establishing and maintaining relationships in the community as well as attending pet-related fairs/events as a representative of the company
- Teach and/or assist with group training classes
- Any and all other duties as assigned by the Training Manager
Required Qualifications and Experience:
- Certification via CCPDT or IAABC. If not currently certified, must be willing and able to obtain certification within six months of hire
- Minimum of two years of professional dog training experience. 3+ years experience with private lessons, day training, and group classes preferred
- Knowledge of canine behavior and body language. Experience with complex behavior cases including fear, anxiety, resource guarding, and aggression strongly preferred
- Experienced in operant and classical conditioning practices with an emphasis on positive reinforcement. Knowledge of reinforcement systems, pattern games, and errorless learning techniques preferred
- Comfortable working with dogs of all ages, sizes, breeds, and temperaments. Experience working in a daycare, boarding, and/or shelter environment is strongly preferred
- Exceptional organizational and communication skills
- Dependable, professional, and punctual
- Must reside in or around the San Diego area
- Basic computer skills and proficiency in working within Google Drive
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs., stand and walk for extended periods, climb stairs, and maneuver through various obstacles
- Occasional assistance with front desk, kennel, and or play group operations. We work as a team from top to bottom and everyone helps when necessary to ensure a high-quality standard of care for all
- Valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation
What we offer:
$23.00 - $28.00 per hour
- Starting pay is based on experience and the length of onboarding training needed.
- Changes in pay rate after onboarding are dependent on performance reviews, number of dogs an individual trainer can effectively handle on their schedule at a time, and involvement with group classes.
- W-2 Employee, not an independent contract position
- Guaranteed 16-32hrs/week, dependent on part-time or full-time status

Schedule:
- Full Time: Monday-Thursday
- Part Time: Monday/Wednesday OR Tuesday/Thursday
- Expected hours 8:00AM-5:00PM, working 16 – 32 per week
- Weekends and holidays as needed
